I have kept it under wraps for weeks, but with the imminent release of my new children’s picture book The Underdog Duckling, I am delighted to finally share the cover with you!

(My newsletter subscribers actually got a sneak peek a week ago. If you would like to join my newsletter for advance notices, exclusive specials, and sneak peeks at my upcoming books and events, please consider signing up here.)

First I want to give a shout out to everyone who edited and/or gave me feedback on the book while it was in progress. Many thanks to: Sharon Plumb, Alison Lohans, Glynis M. Belec, Miriam Körner, Ashleigh Mattern, Katherine Lawrence, Alice Kuipers, Christie Thomas, Kristine Scarrow, Wendy Crawford, Gillian Richardson, Marion Mutala, and Darla Read for taking the time to encourage me and/or help improve my manuscript.

Secondly, I am grateful to my publisher, Heather, with Your Nickel’s Worth Publishing who did such a beautiful layout and always maintains a level of excellence in all she does.

The book was printed by Houghton Boston in Saskatoon, and I am very grateful for Peter Tang who has gone above and beyond in ensuring a quality product when I have given him some pretty tight deadlines! I first worked with Peter and HB with my recent release When Sleeping Birds Fly: 365 Amazing Facts About The Animal Kingdom, which you can read about here and purchase here.

Finally, I am so grateful Heather introduced me to illustrator Olha Tkachenko. Olha did a beautiful job in capturing not only Quinn’s journey, but also that of the underdog duckling. She has done a gorgeous job with the backgrounds featuring true-to-life illustrations of the water birds and other wildlife you might see at a city pond through three seasons. An interview with Olha will be the focus in an upcoming blog.

Below is the big reveal! The book is not yet available in stores but you can order online by clicking here

The official release of The Underdog Duckling is Wednesday, September 19/18 from 7-9 pm at McNally Robinson Booksellers on 8th Street in Saskatoon. I will have some hands-on activities there for kids to do; all ages are welcome!

Hope to see you there! It is my first official book launch at Canada’s largest independent bookseller, so it is very exciting!
