BEFORE I DIE I WANT TO (BECOME)......

Walking a pedestrian pathway along the river in downtown Saskatoon, I came across this huge blackboard titled "Before I die I want to......." under one of the bridges. The responses varied wildly, and were no doubt from a wide range of people from all walks of life: the homeless, the business person, joggers, tourists, couples, families, old and young, whoever wandered by and stopped to ponder this BIG question. Here are some of their responses:

- own a home
- sail the Mediterranean
- grow old but strong
- see Jesus
- make a difference
- ski every mountain
- get married
- break a record
- love and be loved
- go home

These responses reflect the
heart desires of many of us - the yearning for adventure, the pride and stability that comes with owning our own home, the desire for a healthy long life, accomplishing something dear to our heart, the strengthening of our faith, to love and be loved, and more.

I chose not to add my thoughts to the list, but it did give me pause to think, and I hope it will encourage you to as well.

Here are some questions to ponder:

What is my heart's desire to accomplish while I am here on earth?

What are my goals for the near and far future?

And what are the steps I need to take to fulfill them?

What was also brought to mind, was that old saying that we are
human BEINGS not human DOINGS. I myself often fall into the trap of busyness and not take enough time to just BE. So here are some more questions to ask ourselves:

What do I need to put into place to incorporate more quiet time into my life?

What will that quiet time look like? Reflection? Praying? Reading? Emptying my mind?

And going deeper:

Is there something about myself that I need to change in order to become a better person, so I can BE a better human BEING?

Here's the thing:
God loves you just the way you are. He accepts you with all your imperfections. But that doesn't mean that we should never stop growing in the "being" part.

So here's another question to ponder:

"Before I die, I want to BECOME......"

Now THAT'S an even more interesting question.......
