TOP TEN EDMONTON VALLEY ZOO PHOTOS

I have visited the Edmonton Valley Zoo twice. Both times were in the off-season: April 2014 and January 2017.

While there are benefits to visiting a zoo when it is less busy, it also means that the cooler weather may restrict the number of animals you may see. Our January 2017 visit was particularly short because of the cold temperatures; nonetheless, I got a few great photos.

One of the highlights in our 2014 visit was seeing Lucy the elephant roam around the grounds with her trainers. We followed her…

20 GARDEN FLOWER PHOTOS

Photographing flowers isn’t something I do a lot of; I have yet to master the specialized techniques that show the flowers at their best. However, like all of us, I can’t resist trying to capture digitally something so beautiful, so I can go back and enjoy the images year-round, especially on a dreary winter day when the cold seems to drag on forever. I hope you enjoy this little bit of springtime in the middle of winter.

These photos feature flowers in my own garden and those in neighbourhood gardens.…

WATERTON LAKES NATIONAL PARK, ALBERTA - TOP 17 WILDLIFE PHOTOS 2017

In my last post, I shared a few of my favourite scenery photos at Waterton Lakes National Park in southwestern Alberta, Canada. You can read it here

This post shares 17 photos of wildlife we spotted at the park in May 2017.

We were barely inside the park gates when my husband, who has an eagle eye, spotted something in the trees. While he thought it might be a golden eagle, once I zoned in on what he was seeing, I was sure it was something wrapped around the trunk. We grabbed our cameras and got…

WATERTON LAKES NATIONAL PARK, ALBERTA - TOP 17 SCENERY PHOTOS 2017

Waterton Lakes National Park may be the smallest mountain park in the Canadian Rockies, but there is nowhere else in the world where a World Heritage Site, biosphere reserve, and international peace park are all found at one location! Further, the park is home to flora and fauna not found anywhere else in Alberta.

Nestled in the southwestern part of the province and joining with Glacier National Park south of the US border, Waterton Lakes National Park is a favourite destination for hikers, photographers,…

THE TWELVE DAYS OF GIVING--PART 4

As I wrap up this four-part series, my thoughts turn to how I can bring The Twelve Days of Giving into the next twelve months. It is easy to be generous when we are caught up in the Christmas season, but my sincere desire is to be open to the needs of others throughout the year. We all have grand plans for what we want to accomplish at the beginning of a new year. I encourage you to include philanthropy in your plans too. And leave yourself open to those impromptu moments when the Spirit nudges you to give…

THE TWELVE DAYS OF GIVING--PART 3

The first two instalments of this blog—Part 1 and Part 2—were mostly about acts of service. Now I will switch my attention to other resources. This next instalment is about online giving—monetary gifts.

Most everyone agrees that giving to charities is important. There are many worthy charities out there; many places where your donation dollars could go.

I encourage you to think about these questions when considering where to share your hard-earned dollars. What are you passionate about? What stirs your…

THE TWELVE DAYS OF GIVING--PART 2

I am really enjoying finding ways to give of my time and other resources to others during this holiday season, and sharing them with you. I think it is important, though, to address the elephant in the room—the Bible clearly tells us not to boast of our charitable deeds.

Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven. So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in
