I love to create capsule wardrobes for myself, and when I find new information and techniques to enhance the skills of what I already have, I am all in.
So, when I saw Style by Color’s 27 Hanger Closet video course, I had to check it out. As a Style by Color Certified Color Consultant, I saw the value of, first, finding out what my best clothing and accessories colours were, and then implementing what I learned by editing my closet. This would allow me to not only get rid of clothing that wasn’t serving me but would also get me to look at my remaining pieces with fresh eyes so I could determine what pieces, if any, I needed to supplement what I already had in my wardrobe as well as ideas to create new outfit combinations.
For only $27 USD, Style by Color founder and CEO Shari Braendel will personally guide you step by step through the course via a collection of videos. She even encourages you to pause the videos at certain times so you can go and do the steps she recommends in real time.
While I can’t share each step here, I CAN show you my own personal results after going through the course. Below are the results for the first quarter of 2025 as I curated my January to March capsule wardrobe.
Here’s what my closet looked like before I started. This did not include my collection of T-shirts as they were stored elsewhere.

Here’s what my closet looked like after. So much easier to see the pieces!

The course helps you identify your style personality along with your best neutrals and pop colours. Then, one garment at a time, you go through your wardrobe, picking the required number of bottoms, tops, layering pieces, dresses, and accessories and removing those pieces that no longer serve you. You end up with a curated closet that is perfect for your needs.
Here's a photo of the pieces I donated, take from my closet and drawers. These pieces either didn't fit me, were never worn, were old, or weren't the right colours. You can see I got rid of a lot of black, which I found out is not in my ideal colour palette when I had my colours done.

My collection in the after photo ended up being less than 27 pieces because I am short a few tops. I would like to add more colour to my wardrobe, so I will be using my Color Code digital colours, which you get free when you purchase a consultation, to pick just the right tops. To find out what Color Code you are and the best colours for you personally, why don’t you consider getting a virtual or in-person colour consultation with me?
Using my now-curated wardrobe, I put together 12 different looks (see below) for this blog. Note that in this selection of looks, I am using the same bottom, the navy Christal pintuck ankle length pant from Miik Inc. Imagine the combinations I can make when I start swapping in some of the other bottoms!
Here are the 12 looks. Some of the pieces were purchased from Miik Inc. Click on the photo and it will take you to the website and in some cases, one of the pieces of clothing featured.

Even with less than 27 pieces in my closet, I am just scratching the surface with outfit combinations. And they are all in my correct colours!
